About me

Ellie Peterson 2021 closeup.jpg

Hi there! I'm a picture book author, illustrator, and educator living in the Seattle area. My work is inspired by the countless interactions I've had with kids after 20 wonderful years as a classroom teacher and my experience growing up as a biracial army brat. My goal is to make books that amuse, intrigue, and inspire children of all ages.

Look out for my upcoming books HOW TO HUG A PUFFERFISH (Roaring Brook, April 12, 2022), SCHOOL IS WHEREVER I AM (Roaring Brook, May 3, 2022) and HOME IS CALLING (Summer 2023). You can also check out the Joulia Copernicus Book Series from Boyds Mills Kane: IT'S A ROUND, ROUND WORLD! and THE REASON FOR THE SEASONS. I'm also the illustrator of BEA'S BEES, written by Katherine Pryor.

I'm the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion coordinator for the Western Washington chapter of SCBWI and a member of The Broadstrokes, an all-female illustration critique group.

I'm represented by Adria Goetz of Martin Literary Management.
